CAMPING

KOL HALEV AND RECONSTRUCTIONIST CAMPING

Our community has always known how important a good Jewish camping experience can be for our youth. We've always been strong supporters of Reconstructionist camping. Member Sam Kelman chaired the national committee that planned Camp JRF. From season one, our boys and girls have attended Camp JRF in great numbers. They return with stories of fun, friendship and personal growth.

Photos: at our summer 2007 picnic Kol HaLev campers speak movingly about what Camp JRF has meant to them.

Support for Reconstructionist camping comes at three levels. First, Camp JRF is heavily subsidized with gifts and grants, so no family pays the full cost. Second, our budget supports camp scholarships ("camperships"). Third, our  Cleveland Jewish community, which also values the Jewish camp experience highly, provides funds through the JECC (Jewish Education Center of Cleveland).

Camp JRF Grants -- "CAMPERSHIPS"

Kol HaLev and the JECC will again provide grants to help families defray the cost for children attending Camp JRF for their first or second time. If you are interested in applying for one of these camperships, please contact Alan Weinstein (216-687-3758 or alan.weinstein AT law.csuohio.edu).

We must receive your campership request no later than February 29, 2008. Please note that first priority will be given to children enrolled in the Kol HaLev education program. Please note too that camperships are not need- based.

About the JECC

The Jewish Education Center of Cleveland was formed in 1993 by combining the Bureau of Jewish Education (established in 1924) with Federation's Commission on Jewish Continuity. It directs the continuity work of the Jewish Community Federation of Cleveland and administers the multi-million dollar Fund for the Jewish Future, the endowment that continues to support continuity projects. The JECC ensures Jewish continuity in Cleveland by fostering and strengthening life-long Jewish learning in various settings and forms — including camping.  Learn more ....

Kol HaLev thanks them for their help in making it possible for many Kol HaLev youngsters to benefit from a Jewish camping experience.
