HAGIGA 2008 - 2009
An Innovative Shabbat Morning Education Program
This Year's Congregational Theme -- Sustaining Our Sacred Center
Hagiga Theme -- Tikkun Olam: Sustaining Ourselves and Our World
Hagiga, Kol HaLev's education program now in its fourth year, embodies our community's vision for youth and family education.
This year's program 2008-2009
This year's overarching congregational theme is "Sustaining Our Sacred Center" and Hagiga will be focusing on "Tikkun Olam: Sustaining Ourselves and Our World." Hagiga means celebration and that is what this program is. Hagiga celebrates learning, as it states in the program's mission and vision: "In recognition of the importance of life-long questioning and Jewish learning, our Hagiga program aims to create a range of joyous, exciting educational and social opportunities for our youth and families." We look forward to an exciting program for our children with even more emphasis on family and intergenerational learning this year. May we continue to grow from strength to strength.
Our year will start with an opening program on Sunday, September 14. Hagiga will then meet on the first and third Shabbat mornings of each month from 10:30 - 12:30, September through May.
Hagiga's vision statement
This educational program is an informal, intergenerational education model where there is an inherent learning partnership between the teacher, the learner and the subject matter. The students are brought into the learning process as active, valued participants. The subject matter is linked to the real life situations of the learners. The learning spaces are flexible and there are cooperative learning groups engaging in experiential activities which include drama, art, music, dance, games, role-playing and activities outside the walls of the classroom. Learning involve families and at times other members of the Kol HaLev community. Madrichim are volunteers, trained and supervised by our director of education. Where possible, this program is coordinated with the educational products/efforts of JRF (the federation of more than 100 Reconstructionist communities), No'ar Hadash (JRF Youth Programming), and Camp JRF.
