Tikkun Olam - Social Action
An invitation from your Tikkun Olam Committee
The Reconstructionist movement works actively within the area of social action, highlighting areas such as international conflict resolution, hunger and the environment. Our Kol HaLev Tikkun Olam committee, chaired by Nancy Rubel, has begun to create an agenda for our community in all these areas. Supporting both Mazon and the Food Pantry of the AIDS Taskforce of Greater Cleveland, we also hope to continue our efforts in response to the genocide in Darfur and the conflict in Israel, along with various other local projects.

April 2006: 33 'Kol HaLevers' plus friends went to Washington D.C. to
rally for U.S. and world action in Sudan's Darfur region. Learn more.
Here are some current activities:
- Collection of monetary donations for Mazon and aid in hunger relief at High Holy Days and Passover.
- Collection of canned food for the Food Pantry of the Aids Task Force of Greater Cleveland at Yom Kippur.
- Volunteering as part of the Interfaith Hospitality Network to assist homeless families in need. Contact Nancy Dudwick.
- Hanukah backpack project where we will collect backpacks, can openers and funds for food at our December 17th Hanukah celebration. Contact Anita Cohn.
- Support for Darfur Relief Project. See our Darfur page.
- Support for Israel (Project in the creation stage)
- Advancement of environmentally sustainable practices within and beyond the Kol HaLev community. Contact Gary Russo.
We are continually adding to and shaping this agenda. Members who are interested in these activities should contact the person mentioned. If no one is mentioned or if you'd like to explore other ideas, contact Nancy Rubel.
Kol HaLev is also represented in individual Tikkun Olam activities in the community. An example: President Sue Pelleg volunteers for the Jewish Federation Chaplaincy Program visiting Grande Pointe Nursing Home.
