The Reconstructionist Mahzor (High Holy Days Prayer Book)

    High Holy Days prayer book

Kol HaLev makes use of the Reconstructionist High Holy Days prayer book, Mahzor Leyamim Norai'im: Prayerbook for the Days of Awe for our High Holy Days worship. This comprehensive text is replete with insights, commentary, poetry, meditations, and more, all rooted in the traditional liturgy while also fully contemporary, a beautiful reflection of the Reconstructionist movement's definition of Judaism as an "evolving religious civilization".

While the digital version of the High Holy Days machzor (made available during the pandemic) is great for home use / virtual service attendance, our community discourages the use of electronic devices in the sanctuary and chapel on Shabbat and holidays, except in emergencies (see our Shabbat policies here).

Kol HaLev owns only a limited number of the hardback Reconstructionist mahzorim, which we like to reserve for use by guests attending Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur services.

Kol HaLev members support this welcoming minhag (custom) by bringing their own copies of the mahzor to Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidre, Yom Kippur, and other High Holy Days services.  Members can purchase Mahzor Leyamim Norai'im at a significant discount from the Reconstructionist Press (see below).

Interested in the option of a digital mahzor?

If you're planning to attend services via Zoom or livestream, and you'd like the convenience of a mahzor but don't yet own a hard copy, you can download the mahzor from the Reconstructing Judaism website – in its entirety or in sections – and read the PDF on your electronic device, or print out what you like!  There are lots of great supplemental High Holy Days resources available for download from that webpage as well.

    Updated August 2022:

We're sorry to announce that the Reconstructionist Press is currently out of stock of High Holy Days mahzorim, likely until after the 2022/5783 High Holy Days season. It is not available from the Reconstructionist Press website at this time.

Kol HaLev members can receive 40% off the list price of items purchased from the Reconstructionist Press, including mahzorim, when they are available.

If interested in ordering at the members' discounted price, (including mahzorim once they are back in stock), please email Books@ReconstructingJudaism.org to inquire, or call the Reconstructionist Press at 215.576.0800 x 233, and let them know you are a member of Kol HaLev – Cleveland to receive the discount.

Visit the Reconstructionist Press website to view their available catalogue.
